Government is in the process of acquiring another parcel of land at Pokuase for displaced residents of Sodom and Gomorrah, Starr News has learnt.
It follows massive encroachment on the earlier land acquired at Adjin Kotoku for the slum dwellers.
Government has come under fire to resettle the thousands of slum dwellers at Sodom and Gomorrah following the recent demolition.
But Starr News gathers that the new land will only create an alternative market for the displaced residents and not to house them.
Municipal Chief Executive for the area Samuel Attuquaye Quaye told Kafui Dey on the Morning Starr Wednesday that a statement to announce government’s roadmap towards the resettlement of the victims will soon be released.
“Even though government is still in the process of acquiring Kotoku, there is a parcel of land still within Ga West which we have indicated to government. It is huge enough and government can acquire it and establish the displaced people on it," he said.
Meanwhile, policy think tank Imani Ghana has condemned government’s handling of the demolition exercise. Vice president of the group, Kofi Bentil told Starr News the approach employed to evict the squatters is wrong.
