The Vice President of the Republic, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur; has announced that government will bear the full cost of all injured persons currently receiving treatment as a result of the floods and fire explosion of last Wednesday.
He was speaking at a non denominational service to kick start a three day mourning period announced by President Mahama on June 4, after a national crisis meeting.
In his words; "...as a sign of our common humanity, Government has decided to underwrite all the medical bills of those injured in the disaster and are in hospital."
The Vice President noted that the entire nation was saddened because many Ghanaians and other nationals lost their lives in the flood and fire; he expressed government's condolences to families that lost their loved ones to the disaster.
The Vice President was joined by government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and religious leaders to pay tribute to the people who lost their lives in the floods and fire explosion at the GOIL fuel station in Accra.
As part of the 3 days of mourning, all flags are flying at half-mast.
