Accra, July 7, GNA - Government on Wednesday presented 23 vehicles worth 5.8 billion cedis to the Ghana Audit Service to help them in their movements especially to the districts.
The vehicles, included 10 Tata Safari 4 x 4, six Peugeot 406 saloon cars, five Toyota Prado 4 x4, one Peugeot 607 saloon car and a Toyota, Land Cruiser 4x4.
Mr Asamoah Boateng, Deputy Minister of Information, presented the keys of the car to the Auditor-General, Mr Edward Dua Agyeman. Mr Boateng said the Audit Service was a very important outfit in view of the Government's policy of good governance.
He said there was the need to train the staff and provide them with logistics to enable them to work very efficiently.
The Auditor-General said the Service intended to open 15 new Audit Service Districts and needed more vehicles to do their work.
He said: "Our work involved movement from our work stations to places and we need about 110 more vehicles to do that. The service has been in need of cars since 1998."
