The Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar has reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring easy access to information, especially to public sector institutions, which according to her, would facilitate access to records.
She said, “it is imperative that we mainstream access to the information within all public sector institutions”.
“This means making access to information a routine part of the governance process and ensuring that government agencies actively publicize key documents and records”.
This she says, would foster a culture of openness that goes beyond compliance.
Speaking at the opening of the 2024 International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) Conference in Accra on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, she emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the free flow of information and fostering its accessibility on its websites.
“The goal is not just to provide information but to proactively share knowledge that can inform public discourse and Forster meaningful participation”, she added.
She outlined a number of initiatives the government has embarked on to ensure information is accessible to all citizens, such as the Right to Information Bill (RTI).
