Organizing Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and Managing Director of Atinka Media Village, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has called on government to demonstrate political will in curbing the insecurity in some parts of the country.

And that even though government's actions are quite encouraging, it ought to show some more commitment as was done in the case of the Galamsey fight.

Just in about a month, our security has been under threats where a chief at Miotso was assassinated in his car, one Josephine Asante, Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager of Ghana Ports and Habour Authority, was murdered in cold blood at her residence, Ahmed Hussein Suale of Tiger Eye PI, shot to death and the insurgence of kidnapping in the Western Region.

And yet, the police have not arrested any of the killers even though some prize-money has been announced.

Speaking on Atinka TV's evening show "Hot of the Press", about the killing of journalist, Ahmed Hussein Suale, a member of the Tiger Eye PI, and related issues, Mr. Dwumfour submitted that government has a prime responsibility to protect the Media, the fourth arm of government and all other citizens.

Besides, the onus lies on it to strengthen the security apparatus to ensure their efficiency regardless of the fact that we are all responsible for our personal security.

He sees the security of the country as Paramount and believes the loudest declaration from the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in dealing ruthlessly with the insecurity could have stopped the menace.

However, in as much as he held government accountable for providing adequate security, he charged every journalist to be security conscious and protect themselves in their line of duty.

Quizzed about what the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has been doing to protect it members and all Journalists, the Organizing Secretary revealed that they will continue to give capacity training and skills about personal security for the media.

They will continue to engage the Ghana Police Service in the interest of the Media. Therefore, the association needs to have a united front.
