Government presents 38-seater Toyota Coaster bus to School

Kumasi, Dec. 3, GNA - The government on Friday presented a 38-seater Toyota Coaster bus valued at 610.9 million cedis to the Kumasi Wesley Girls' High School. The bus was bought from the HIPC Fund.

Handing over the keys to the school authorities, Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, said it was important to ensure that they took good care of it.

He gave the assurance that if returned to political power, through the 2004 general elections, the Kufuor administration would continue to improve on the infrastructure of the school.

The Regional Minister used the occasion to advise the students to be disciplined, saying, it was by doing that they would be building a good future for themselves.

Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, noted that, Ghana could only move forward when the young ones receive reasonable levels of education.

He therefore, told the students to act responsibly and take their studies more seriously.

The Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, praised Dr Akoto Osei for being instrumental in getting the bus for the school.

He said apart from the provision of transport, the government was also assisting in the construction of a 24-unit classroom block for the school with 800 million cedis.

The money is coming from the GETFund.

Earlier in her welcoming address, the Headmistress, Miss Sabina Ama Grant, apologized for a publication in the Daily Graphic that sought to create the impression that, the school was not receiving support from the government.

She stated that, the said publication authored by four students of the school was not factual and must be ignored. Meanwhile, the Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church has out-doored a uniform for its schools.

It has the traditional yellow and blue colours and would be adopted by all schools run by the church.
