Government presents 50 million cedis cheque to Agogo Collins School

Kumasi, March 02, GNA - The government on Wednesday presented a cheque for 50 million cedis to the Agogo Collins Secondary/Commercial School towards the improvement of facilities in the school.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the Ashanti Regional Minister, said it was in fulfilment of a pledge made last year by the Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the school.

He said the government was committed to the development of education in the country and that the provision of projects in second cycle institutions from the HIPC and GETFund as well as the introduction of the Capitation Grant and allocation of buses to schools has demonstrated the desire of the government to promote education. Mr Boafo appealed to the school to make judicious use of the money to improve its facilities to enhance teaching and learning. Mr Kwadwo Owusu Akomeah, the Headmaster of the school who received the cheque, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the government for the gesture.

He said the money would go a long way to help improve upon facilities at the school.

The headmaster mentioned some of the problems facing the school as lack of accommodation for the tutors and other staff as well as lack of means of transport and urged the government to help.
