Government renews curfew in Bawku Municipality and its environs

Accra, May 21, GNA - The Minister of the Interior, Mr Martin Amidu has on the advice of Upper East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, renewed for a week the curfew imposed on the Bawku Municipality and its environs. A statement the minister signed said the curfew took effect from Friday, May 21. It said the curfew hours remained from 1600 hours to 0600 hours each day. The statement said: "Government wishes to commend the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion leaders and the people of the areas for the continued peace and to also assure them of government's commitment to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the country at all times". The statement reiterated that there is a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality, and its immediate environs (Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi and Gushegu) from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any person found violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted.
