Government rescues GHANASCO with GH¢410,389

The Government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has rescued Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) from a judgement debt, which was threatening to collapse one of the enviable schools in the Northern regional capital of Tamale.

Properties of the school including vehicles had been attached based on a court order and were nearly auctioned as a result of the accrued debt owed by one of the best second cycle institutions in the region

The judgment debt against the school came about, as a result, the wrongful termination of the appointment of the plaintiff by authorities of Ghana Senior High School in 2011. The High Court in Tamale gave judgement in favor of the plaintiff in 2011 and ordered Ghana Education Service to pay the appropriate compensation to the plaintiff.

The payment of the judgement debt dragged on for years resulting in another court order in 2014 which encumbered the properties of the school. The court further ordered that the encumbered properties be auctioned to defray the debt.

At the School’s Speech and Prize-Giving Day which was held on 3rd March, 2018 the Northern Regional Minister, Hon Salifu Saeed, speaking on behalf of Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that Government would defray the debt on behalf of the school to allow for the institution to concentrate on its core mandate of teaching students.

This week, Government fulfilled its pledge by issuing a cheque of GH¢ 410,389 to Alhaji Mohammed Haroon Cambodia the Northern Regional Director of Ghana Education Service. This brings to closure the long-standing litigation which was threatening to collapse the school.
