A spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama campaign, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has questioned the government over claims that it has constructed 12,000 kilometres of road.
According to her, from her campaign rounds across the country, there are indications that the government may be throwing dust into the eyes of the Ghanaian people.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari, who made this known in a post shared via social media, could not fathom why there continues to exist bad roads because the government is touting itself as doing more to ensure quality roads are constructed in the country.
Her post shared via social media read “We have been on the campaign trail for the last few months and we have seen some literally terribly bad roads. The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) assertion that they have built or constructed over 12,000 kilometers of roads in Ghana has raised many eyebrows, with many questioning the accuracy of this claim.
"The Akufo Addo/ Bawumia campaign’s claim a few days ago has sparked widespread skepticism, particularly when compared to the distance between Accra and for example California, which is about 12,000 kilometers.
"To put this into perspective, if the NPP has indeed constructed 12,000 kilometers of roads, it would imply that Ghana’s road network is extensive enough to connect Accra to all the 16 regions of Ghana, effectively eliminating bad roads in the country.
"However, the reality on the ground tells a different story, with many Ghanaians complaining about the poor state of roads over the past eight years.
"John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to conduct an audit to verify the legitimacy of these road projects when he comes into office.
"Mahama has also expressed skepticism about the accuracy of the 12,000-kilometer claim, citing a lack of visible evidence to support the government’s assertion, especially when almost every chief in the traditional areas he has campaigned in, as part of his 2024 campaign has complained about the poor state of roads.
We certainly still don’t eat roads, though but we refuse to accept this big fat lie, #Alakpatorwo."
