Government’s efforts still not enough - Dr. Sekou Nkrumah

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah says the Mahama administration must reconsider its approach so as to facilitate growth of the country. According to him, the same things are being done in terms of the approach and is urging government to have a paradigm shift in the way of doing things.

Speaking on the XYZ Breakfast show hosted by Moro Awudu, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah said government efforts at bridging the gap between population growth, and infrastructural development falls short of expectations.

“We need to be honest with ourselves. The truth of the matter is that the population has been growing since independence…. Population is not the same as when we had independence. Government’s efforts to build the infrastructure, energy, roads, education, health and other aspects of how to develop a nation has obviously fallen short of expectations.”

The former National Coordinator of the National Youth Authority, who has been consistent in his criticism of NDC government, argues that government’s efforts so far has impacted very little on the society because the population keeps rising.

“The very little that government [does] seems not to have a real impact on society, so you still have a lot of people who are uneducated, you still have a lot of people who don’t benefit from healthcare and housing and so on; but it’s again not sufficient enough…Nkrumah built the dam for the industries that he had in mind.

"When you look at some countries like Switzerland, they build small dams to supply the energy needs of the population and so you don’t need a big one. A big dam, then it’s built for a certain project in mind, and that’s the industrialization that Nkrumah had in mind.”
