Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the nominee for Defence Minister, has pledged to modernise and re-equip Ghana's military through innovative strategies.
This commitment was articulated during his vetting session with the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
Dr. Omane Boamah emphasised the urgency of updating the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to address new and evolving security threats.
"We cannot afford to fall behind in an era of evolving security challenges. My approach will focus on adopting innovative methods and leveraging technology to ensure that our military personnel are well-equipped and motivated to defend our sovereignty," he stated.
He outlined plans to create strategic partnerships and seek cost-effective solutions for acquiring advanced military equipment.
The Defence Minister-Designate stressed the importance of tailoring these innovations to meet the specific operational needs of the GAF.
“We must ensure that the tools and resources provided align with the realities of the terrain and the duties expected of our military. This will not only enhance their effectiveness but also boost their morale,” Dr. Omane Boamah explained.
He also advocated for continuous training to ensure military personnel stay abreast of the latest military practices and technologies.
Dr. Omane Boamah called for collective support from all stakeholders for his vision of a modernised defence system, contingent on his confirmation as Defence Minister.
“It is my belief that with the right strategies and commitment, we can strengthen the capacity of our Armed Forces to effectively secure our nation and contribute meaningfully to regional peacekeeping efforts,” he concluded.
