Government to consider the creation of Atwima-Kwanwoma District

Atwima-Foase (Ash), Oct 30, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday said the Government would consider the creation of a separate district for Atwima-Kwanwoma in the Ashanti Region. He said as a first step, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) would undertake a survey on the population and other factors to determine whether it would be feasible to create the district from the present Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District. President Kufuor was reacting to an appeal made by the chiefs and people at a durbar held in his honour as part of his six-day official tour of the Ashanti Region.

He requested the Ashanti Regional Directorate of Health to undertake a study towards the establishment of a hospital in the area and said "we will endeavour to assist you in the development of the area".

President Kufuor urged the people to vote massively for the NPP to renew its mandate to enable it to develop the area. He reiterated an appeal to the electorate to vote for the NPP in both the presidential and parliamentary elections in December. Nana Kwaku Tuffour, Chief of Atwima-Foase, said the area had been neglected for a very long time and appealed to the Government to develop the area.

He called on Government to rehabilitate roads, schools and provide potable water and improve health care delivery in the area.
