President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced plans by his government to construct a National Detective Training Academy at Kenyasi Number One in the Brong Ahafo Region to give officers the requisite skills needed in their line of work.

Speaking at the Ghana Police Service’s annual West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) get-together in Accra, President Akufo-Addo reiterated government’s commitment in ensuring that the service lacks nothing and is equipped with the needed resources.

According to him, the essence of constructing a new National Detective Training Academy is to be at par with the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) Training Academy that would make the Ghana Police Service recognisable with their skills and reach international standard.

“Government is determined to give whatever support it requires to ensure that we have the service the people of Ghana deserve and unto that end we are amongst others constructing a new National Detective Training Academy in Kenyasi Number One in the Brong Ahafo Region to rival its American equivalent the FBI Training Academy,” he said.

On the theme “Consolidating ideas against vigilantism for national security”, President Akufo-Addo said “my government is determined to work with the police to guarantee the security of citizens in accordance with the rule of law. That is why my government will continue to work to modernise and resource the police service adequately in order to assist it to maintain law and order and protect lives and property”.

The President further used the occasion to congratulate the police service for the excellent display they put up during the 6th March Independence celebration in Tamale.
