Government to equip MDAs logistically- Vice President

Accra, Aug 20, GNA- Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Friday announced that government would equip government Ministries, Departments and Agencies with modern technological logistics for them to meet current developmental challenges.

He said it was unfortunate that most public and civil servants were still using obsolete technology and equipment in the execution of their jobs.

Vice President Mahama announced these when the Board members and Management staff of the Audit Service called on him at the Castle, Osu, as part of the centenary celebration of the service in Ghana.

Apart from briefing the Vice President on programmes heralding their celebrations, the delegation which also included Auditor-Generals and their Deputies from South Africa, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Liberia were also there to officially invite him to grace their Dinner to climax their activities.

The Vice President called on managements of the MDAs to offer in-house training for their staff to become abreast of current trends and challenges in the labour sector.

He expressed satisfaction that they had invited their colleagues from other countries to be part of their celebrations as that could offer them the opportunity to share experiences on their work.

Mr. John Klingo, Board Chairman of Ghana Audit Service, said after excelling in other areas of auditing, Ghana was embarking on environmental auditing, particularly as Ghana had discovered oil and gas.

He said most of the staff of the service were currently undertaking training in that respect to offer their expertise to both Ghanaian and Foreign firms that were interested in their services.

He appealed to the government to facilitate their work by providing modern equipment and capacity building to achieve their goals.

Mr. Richard Quartey, the Auditor-General, said they would use their centenary celebration to re-awaken and educate their staff to improve on their performance to maintain their reputation on the African continent and beyond.
