Government would launch a full scale investigation into the latest killing incident in Kumasi in which a security man was allegedly shot dead at a hotel, Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister for Information and Media Relations has announced.
The deceased, who was identified as Joe, was a security man at Ash Court, a hotel in Bantama, Kumasi, was believed to be in his mid-thirties.
The latest incident follows a streak of similar murderous activities in the Ashanti Region over the past three weeks, which had resulted in the deaths of seven people so far.
Mr Ayariga told journalists at the daily media briefings at the Flagstaff House, Accra, on Monday that the security agencies would get to the bottom of the latest incident.
He reassured that the government was on top of security in the country, adding “We have the personnel and the capabilities.”
Mr Ayariga, however, stated that the security agencies needed public cooperation, and urged the public to be forthcoming with information to aid the law enforcement and the intelligence agencies in their work.
Following the recent special Cabinet session to review performance of the economy in the first quarter, Mr. Ayariga hinted that the revenue agencies would be outline measures to enhance revenue mobilization, in the course of the week.
He said the measures included roping more people in the informal sector into the tax net, plugging loop holes in revenue mobilization and stepping up surveillance on the activities of smugglers.
The minister added that President John Mahama will on Thursday, lead a government delegation to participate in the golden jubilee celebration of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He said the President would also embark on a state visit next month to France and later attend the Tokyo International Confab on Africa’s Development (TICAD), in Japan.
