The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has disclosed the government’s intentions to enact a law to make Secondary education compulsory and free.

Speaking on the state of education in Ghana at the Accra International Conference Centre on July 29, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum asserted that this initiative will grant opportunities to the youth in underprivileged regions to have access to secondary education without any barriers.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum emphasized that the law will further address and resolve any challenges faced by the government, reiterating its commitment to improving the education sector.

"...When you hear of us talking about free compulsory universal secondary education and the enactment of an act to guide and protect free secondary education, we are talking about ensuring that no child has a choice to say, 'I will not go to secondary school, I will not go to technical school, I will not engage in a structured apprenticeship program’”, he said.

"Cabinet has approved the proposal to enact the law that will ensure free and compulsory universal secondary education," he stressed.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum advised the youth and their guardians to take advantage of the Free SHS initiative.
