The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced that it will start making payments to accredited healthcare providers across the country.

This development comes after the government lifted the spending cap on the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) during the presentation of the 2025 Budget.

According to Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive Officer of NHIA, the authority will ensure swift reimbursement of vetted claims on a regular basis, starting this week.

This move is in line with President John Dramani Mahama's campaign promise to strengthen the National Health Insurance Scheme.

In a press release dated March 25, 2025, on X, Dr Bampoe stated that to ensure transparency and accountability, the NHIA will publish details of all paid claims on its website and increase monitoring of healthcare facilities nationwide.

"The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) wishes to inform all NHIS-credentialed healthcare providers that, following the recent uncapping of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) as announced by the Finance Minister, Hon. Ato Forson MP and in fulfillment of a campaign promise by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, reimbursement of vetted claims will be made swiftly and on a regular basis, starting this week, to ensure smooth service delivery," the statement said.

Dr Bampoe warned that any provider found violating NHIA policies will face sanctions without exception.

"We are reminding healthcare providers to adhere strictly to the scheme's rules and refrain from collecting unauthorized charges," he indicated.

The authority's efforts aim to improve the reliability and efficiency of the National Health Insurance Scheme, providing better healthcare services to Ghanaians.
