Government to speed up work on Keta Sea Defence project

Keta, March 9, GNA - Torgbui James Ocloo V, Dufia of Keta Traditional Area in the Volta Region on Thursday called on the Government to speed up work on the Keta Sea Defence Project. He said the timely completion of the project was necessary to save the Keta Township and other nearby communities from sea erosion. Torgbui Ocloo said this when he meet stakeholders on the project together with other chiefs, elders and prominent citizens of the area. He lamented on the slow pace of infrastructural development in Keta after years of sea erosion which had virtually raided the community and others around the coastline in the region. "The Fort Prezeinsteins, a monument left behind by the colonial government is gradually fading out due to persistent erosion and this has affected the economic life of the people leading to poverty and unemployment of the youth of the area," he said.

Torgbui Ocloo therefore urged the government, its development partners and the business community to take advantage of the vast business opportunities of the area to invest in industries, hotels and other recreational facilities there.

He assured prospective investors of the support of the traditional council and the region as a whole. Torgbui Kumassah, Agbotadua of Keta, who gave the history of the town, urged all citizens to come back home to re-ignite the spirit of Keta. He called on the various youth groups to unite to achieve the common objectives of reviving the economic life of the area.
