Kpetoe, Dec. 19, GNA- Beneficiaries of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in the Adaklu-Anyigbe District, on Tuesday urged government to sustain the programme and add more modules to reduce poverty in the country.
They said the NYEP had relieved them of their financial burden and called on other youths to embrace it. They were speaking at an end of year get-together organized for them by the District NYEP Secretariat at Kpetoe. Some of the beneficiaries said the NYEP had made them breadwinners of their families and it's failure could be disastrous. Togbe Sem Tsigbe, Chief of Adaklu-Abuadi, and community education teaching assistant, told GNA that even though allowances delay sometimes, the NYEP had transformed his status and improved his financial situation.
He observed that it has also improved the teacher- pupil and patient-nurse ratio especially in the communities and called on all to support it for mutual benefit. Mr Mawuli Dabi, Adaklu-Anyigbe District Chief Executive urged the beneficiaries to use advantages in the programme to realize their dreams and not take it as a permanent job. He advised them to be disciplined and responsible to serve as role models for other youths.
Mr Paul Hukporti, District Coordinator of the programme called on the beneficiaries to remain committed to the programme and see the delay in payment of allowances as "training in financial management". He said a total of 1,344 youths were benefiting from the programme out of 3090 applications received by the District.
In all 12 beneficiaries from Youth in Agric, CETA, Waste and Sanitation Guards, Health Extension, Community Protection and Trade and Vocation were given awards and certificates for their hard works with the ultimate prize of a bicycle and other parcels going to Mr Hukporti for managing the programme successfully in the District.
