Government will fulfil promises - Sunyani MCE

Mensakrom (B/A), July 27, GNA - Mr. Charles M. Commodore, Odikro of Mensakrom, a farming community in Sunyani East District appealed to the government to construct the main road linking Mensakrom and neighbouring communities to help facilitate socio-economic activities in the area.

He said the deplorable nature of the road had virtually made it impossible for the people to cart their farm produce and other goods to and from the community.

The Odikro made the appeal when Mr. Kwasi Oppong Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, paid a visit to the area familiarize himself with problems facing the people.

The visit took him to Mensakrom, Yawhima and Kotokrom.

Mr. Commodore appealed to the MCE to assist the people to rehabilitate the borehole in the town.

He called for the extension of the school feeding programme and school uniforms to the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Kindergarten and Primary School in the town, as well as the construction of a teachers' bungalow.

Mr. Ababio pledged the government's commitment to the construction of the teachers' bungalow and the provision of textbooks, exercise books and school uniforms for pupils.

He said a junior high school block would be constructed in the area next year, a community health nurse would be posted to the area, while boreholes would be constructed in the surrounding communities, as well as the road connecting Mensakrom to nearby towns.

"The municipal assembly has taken steps to procure a grader to level the surface of the road as a short term measure. Later it will be handed over to the Department of Feeder Roads for proper construction", Mr Ababio said.

Mr Ababio presented 12 boxes containing stationery for distribution to pupils of the SDA School.

The items were procured by the Sunyani Network of Pastors in collaboration with Samaritan Purse, a Christian organisation based in the US.

At Yawhima, Nana Egyiri Hanson, Nkosuohene, appealed for the extension of electricity power to newly developed parts of the community, the rehabilitation of roads in Yawhima and the construction of speed ramps from the military range to Fokuo as well as provision of streetlights.
