Government will honour election promises

The Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, on Sunday gave an assurance that the government will keep faith with its election promises of creating wealth and jobs.

He said "we are aware of the high expectations of our people and would work tirelessly to meet these expectations."

Alhaji Mahama was addressing a large crowd of jubilant supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asante-Akim North constituency at a victory rally at Konongo.

He told the people to have hope and confidence in the government, saying "we would turn the economy around."

The Vice President said the government would pay special attention to agriculture, to produce sufficient food to feed the people and promote economic growth.

Alhaji Mahama thanked the people in the constituency for their support, adding that, top ranking officials of the party would soon visit all constituencies to express appreciation to all for the NPP's election victory.

Alhaji Malik Yakubu Alhassan, Minister of Interior, said the government was determined to ensure the protection and security of all people.

"This we will do without fear or favour for anybody. We mean business and we are not going to play with Ghana."

The Minister repeated that serial killers and armed robbers would not be allowed to hold the country to ransom and be chased to whatever corner they are.

He appealed to the people to give information to the security agencies to help retrieve weapons from the hands of bad people, pointing out that "this is a patriotic duty." Mr Sampson K. Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, said the party would ensure an open door and transparent administration.

Nana Adu Asabre, constituency chairman, expressed appreciation to the government for appointing the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu as a Minister of State.

The Vice President had earlier paid a courtesy call on Nana Batafo Acheampong Nti II, Konongohene at his palace.
