Government will improve roads to facilitate development - Buah

Esiama (W/R), Aug 25, GNA - Mr.Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, a Deputy Minister for Energy, said Government would continue to improve the country's roads to facilitate national development.

He said Government was also worried about the high rate of road accidents and efforts would be made to guarantee the safety of drivers and passengers.

Mr. Buah, who is also Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, gave the assurance when he met with the Esiama branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).

He said increment in road tolls "was to enable government to pay off old debts and put the roads in good shape as well as construct more roads ".

Mr. Buah cautioned drivers against speeding, disregard for road signs and traffic regulations and overloading of vehicles to avoid the carnage on our roads.

The chairman of the branch, Mr. Daniel Kwaw Asmah commended Mr. Buah for the visit, saying "since the establishment of the branch in 1971, no MP had paid us a visit to interact with members ".

He appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to repair Esiama town roads and construct speed rumps along the Kikam-Esiama road to prevent accidents.

Mr. Asmah also asked Government to rehabilitate the Aiyinase-Nyamebekyere-Atababo-Kwasikrom road to facilitate economic activities.

He called for the erection of more road signs on Apimanim-Elubo road and appealed to Government to grant soft loans to GPRTU members under the Micro-Finance and Small Loan Centre programme, to enhance their business.
