Government would honour its campaign pledges

Moncheni, (NR), Feb 8, GNA - Mr. Umar Abdul Wahab, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Zabzugu/Tatale on Tuesday said government would continu= e to honour its campaign pledges to justify the confidence the electorate reposed in it in 2008. He said the NDC believed in investing in people and that the tenet of good governance was to provide physical infrastructure for the development of the country, which would remain a legacy for the people even when the government was no longer in power.

Mr. Wahab said this in Moncheni, a farming community near Zabzugu in the Northern Region, when he commissioned a GH¢143,000 six unit classroom block for the community to improve upon education in the area. The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET-Fund) funded the project which comprised a head teacher's office, KVIP and a urinal attached. Mr. Wahab said the provision of educational and health infrastructure across the district was part of fulfilling the NDC government's campaign pledges and gave the assurance that government would continue to undertake development projects that would embrace all communities in the district. He said the government was aware of poor road network linking the district and other communities, which remained a challenge and that plans were underway to regravel all roads leading to major food producing areas t= o enable farmers cart their produce to the market centres. He appealed to the electorate and communities that had not yet receive= d any form of development to wait patiently since the national cake would be distributed equitably. Mr. Kwesi Akaba Braimah, Zabzugu/Tatale District Director of Education commended government for constructing educational infrastructure in remote communities. He gave the assurance that the district directorate of education would embark on enrolment drive to ensure that many children were admitted so as not to defeat the purpose for which the infrastructure was provided. 8 Feb. 11
