Govt releases confiscated assets to 137 people

Accra, Oct. 20, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor has de-confiscated the assets of 137 people, a statement signed by Mr Kwame Osei Prempeh, Deputy Attorney-General and Deputy Minister of Justice said in Accra on Monday.

It said the president's action was upon the recommendations of the Confiscated Assets Committee, Restoration of Assets Committee, Attorney-General and in the spirit of national reconciliation. The statement said the release would be on "where is and as is basis".

"In cases where de-confiscation is not possible because of peculiar circumstances, compensation may be paid," it said, adding "The Attorney-General shall implement the terms of this release on a case-by-case basis."

The statement asked all those who are affected to contact Room 14 of the Attorney-general's Department of call (021)-682530. Those affected are Mr Matthew N. Teteh of Uniclean Limited (15 properties); Krobo Edusei (13 properties); Dr E. Ayeh Kumi (13 properties); the late Mr J.K. Siaw (8 properties); the late M.F. Fattal 3 properties); the late Kofi Krah, aka Kufi Gu (6 properties) amd Mr K.N. Owusu (4 properties).

Others include Mr Tismak Inja (3 properties); Nana Oktwer Bekoe (1 property); the late Alhaji Teillo Bucom (3 properties); Richard Seglah (3 properties); Col. C.R. Techie-Menson (5 properties), the late Moses Twebneboah Kodua (6 properties); Mr E.K. Buckman (3 properties); the late General Akwasi Amankwa Afrifa (3 properties), Mr Arnest Arko (1 property) and Mr B.S.K Kwakye (1 property).
