Govt spokesperson loses in NPP primaries at Akropong Akuapem

Akropong, July 30, GNA- The Government's Spokesman on Finance, Nana Ohene-Ntow failed in his bid to become the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Akropong Constituency.

Mr William Ofori Boafo, an Accra Legal practitioner won with 61 votes as against the 36 obtained by Nana Ohene-Ntow at the Party's primaries held at Akropong on Wednesday.

The third contestant, Mr Kojo Afari, NPP Press Secretary, had no vote.

Earlier, the NPP General Secretary, Mr Dan Botwe warned that the Party would not allow any member to use the Party for his selfish ends.

He said the Party was able to sustain itself in opposition for 30 years due to it's principled and disciplined nature, adding, "if members of our dear Party are not disciplined, there is no way we could have won the 2000 Elections after such a long time".

Mr Botwe, therefore, asked the supporters to exhibit a high sense of discipline at all times.

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the Party, Nana Adi-Ankamah called on the people to rally behind the Party to win the seat again. The two contestants, who lost, pledged their support to work with Mr Boafo who in his acceptance speech, asked the members to rally behind him to win the seat and develop the Constituency.
