Effiduase-Ash. -- The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effiduase- Asokore constituency, Mrs. Grace Coleman?s bid for a third term seems to be falling on the rocks. She will have to employ unorthodox means to get the nod of her party agents and constituents if her aspirations could be fulfilled at the impending NPP primaries.
Indications, according to a survey conducted in the constituency, are that, the NPP would lose the Effiduase-Asokore seat should Mrs. Coleman emerge as the party?s parliamentary candidate, as the delegates had sworn heaven and earth to vote against her and the party they cherish. The people?s choice, it is assumed, is Mr. George Kwame Onyinah, one of the aspirants contesting against the incumbent MP.
A straight 95% of votes has been predicted for the NPP if Onyinah stands on the ticket of the party.
His massive endorsement follows the realization that his name is synonymous with development in the area.
His chances are pegged around his contributions to the welfare of his constituents and fellow party members as well as having good relationship with his people.
Onyinah, who is the ?Nkosuohene? (development chief) of the area, has still, some more pluses in the area of mobilizing and canvassing for support in the Effiduase-Asokore constituency.
?Mr. Onyinah will definitely get about 95% of the 72 votes to be cast during the primaries,? a polling station agent told The Chronicle. But the constituency?s executives said the race could be anyone?s.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Grace Coleman, popularly known in the constituency as ?Obaa Yaa? is allegedly influencing some agents to win their votes at all cost.
The DCE, Mr. Isaiah Opoku Boateng and the constituency chairman are said to be supporting her bid.
The Chronicle learnt that the MP had secured a ?10-million loan facility from the Agricultural Development Bank in Kumasi for those on her campaign trail to share across board. Each of them received ?2 million which could be converted into a gift if she was to return to Parliament. The interviewees further accused her of sending electric poles surreptitiously at night to the surrounding villages at this period of election as a way of influencing the electorate?s decision.
Lack of coordination and contact with her party executives, and poor developments were among other allegations leveled against her.
More allegations against the Effiduase-Asokore MP are that, she, together with the DCE, had diverted a number of projects meant for the constituency to Kumawu, since she hailed from Bome, a community in the Kumawu constituency.
This alleged action so infuriated her constituents, she was heckled at Senigya during a visit to the town recently.
In all, eight persons have applied to compete for the Effiduase-Asokore constituency seat. They are Mrs Grace Coleman, Mr. James Kwadwo Boampong, Mr. George Kwame Onyinah and Mr. Yaw Osei Amoako.
The rest are Mr. Alexander Brian Adomako, Mr. Frank Boakye Agyen (placed second according to the survey), Mr. Felix Kwabena Adunyame and Mr. Rockson Baah Achamfour.
