Grass-cutter rearing workshop held at Wenchi

Badu (B/A), Dec. 15, GNA - Mr. Emmanuel Denkyi, Facilitator of the Wenchi Farm Institute on Friday advised grass-cutter rearers to seek technical advice from the right quarters to run their projects successfully.

He gave the advice at the close of a five-day workshop on grass cutter farming at Badu in the Wenchi District of Brong Ahafo. The workshop organized by the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) for 32 participants drawn from Wenchi was aimed at equipping them with the skills in animal husbandry.

Topics treated included handling and feeding of grass-cutter, appropriate housing and management of herbs and commercial grass-cutter rearing and marketing.

Mr Denkyi noted that grass-cutter husbandry had limited adoption among farmers due to the high mortality rate during breeding as a result of the lack of knowledge and skills.

He advised grass-cutter farmers to increase production to ensure that the meat was always available and at an affordable price and also to reduce bush fires ignited by game chasers.

Mr Denkyi expressed the hope that the training would give the participants the necessary knowledge to enable interested farmers to make grass-cutter farming an enviable business to supplement their incomes.

He entreated farmers to open group accounts at the rural banks to save towards the expansion of their projects.
