Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate alerts public on cholera outbreak

The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate has announced that there has been an increase in cholera cases with reported deaths in the Region for the past three weeks.

An official statement issued and signed by Ms. Honesty Numetu, Health Promotion Specialist advised the public to cultivate the habit of washing their hands with soap under running water before eating; preparing food and after visiting the toilet.

The statement also urged the public to avoid as much as possible buying and eating cooked food which was exposed to dust and flies; wash all plates and cooking bowls, fresh fruits and vegetables thoroughly before use.

“Eat cooked food whilst hot; drink safe water - water that is boiled or chlorinated; use proper toilet facilities, and keep your environment clean,” the statement added.

It said in case of diarrhoea and vomiting, the public should start taking ORS or coconut water and report immediately to the nearest health facility.

"The treatment of diarrhoea is free", the statement assured the public.
