Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, a station officer at Anamase near Oda in the Eastern Region, tragically passed away during his wedding ceremony, according to a report by Graphic Online.
The incident occurred on December 27, 2024, at the Anamase Hotel, the venue for the ceremony.
The groom reportedly collapsed shortly after arriving at the venue, accompanied by his best men, as he waited for his bride, Florence Debrah, who was preparing in one of the hotel rooms.
Eyewitnesses stated that the groom complained of dizziness upon entering the venue.
Before assistance could be rendered, he collapsed.
He was immediately rushed to the Anamase Clinic by some guests, but medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.
The devastating news left hundreds of attendees, including police officers from Accra, Koforidua, Oda, Akyem Achiase, Akyem Swedru, and other areas, in deep sorrow.
Many were overwhelmed with grief and struggled to contain their emotions.
Food and drinks prepared for the celebration remained untouched as heartbroken guests departed the venue.
The family of the deceased, who had traveled from the Northern Region, arranged for the body to be transported to the Oda Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
When Graphic Online visited Akyem Anamase on Saturday, the community was engulfed in mourning.
Residents struggled to come to terms with the loss, and the usual festive spirit of the Christmas season was absent, replaced by an air of sorrow and disbelief.
