A group calling itself the “True and Indigenous Sons of Sunyani,” has appealed to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Asomah-Cheremeh, to honour an invitation to appear before the Sunyani Traditional Council (STC).

A statement signed and read by Mr.Francis Kwaku Barnie, spokesperson of the group at a press conference on Thursday in Sunyani, said Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh has “openly refused to attend to the call by the STC and has also refused to apologize for the insults he spit on Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri the Second, our father and Paramount Chief of Sunyani Traditional Area.”

It would be recalled that on Monday, October 26, the STC held a press conference in Sunyani to demand an apology from the Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman and the Regional Executives of the NPP.

The Council demanded the apology with the explanation that Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh had shown disrespect towards Nana Nkrawiri during an earlier NPP press conference.

That press conference by the NPP was a reaction to “a prediction of 70 % to 80 % win for President John Dramani in the Brong-Ahafo Region, ” made by Nana Nkrawiri during President Mahama’s recent courtesy call on him in Sunyani.

At their press conference, the Regional Executives of the NPP said Nana Nkrawiri’s prediction, among other issues raised, implied an open support by him as an active politician for the President.

The STC said the language used and the manner of presentation by Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh at their (NPP) press conference was an insult to Nana Nkrawiri, saying that dented his image as the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area.

The Council, through their press conference, therefore, asked for apology from the NPP Regional Chairman to Nana Nkrawiri and the STC as a body which was not yet been rendered.

Mr. Barnie noted that “Mr. Asomah Cheremeh’s responses on radio are as disrespectful as his press conference itself, but however said the objective of the group therefore was not to grind an axe with Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh, but to ask him to honour the invitation to him and the Regional Executives of the NPP by the STC as a mark of respect for Nana Nkrawiri.

He stated that the 1992 Republican Constitution of Ghana empowered traditional authorities to summon people to appear before them when necessary, hence Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh must respectfully honour the invitation.

Mr. Barnie urged Mr. Asomah Cheremeh to contribute to ensure the maintenance of the peaceful atmosphere in Sunyani by his position as Regional Chairman of a political party through a show of respect for Nana Nkrawiri and the members of the STC.

He stressed that the position of Nana Nkrawiri as the Paramount Chief of Sunyani Traditional Area could not be challenged by anybody or any court.
