The Nungua Mantse, Oboade Notse King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, is now the President-elect of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC).

King Welentsi III won the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs election held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, which he contested unopposed, graphic.com.gh reports.

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, had been nominated to contest for the position but withdrew on the day of the election, the report added.

In a letter addressed to the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Gladys Pinkrah, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II announced his withdrawal from the race and threw his support behind King Welentsi III.

“His Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse and President of the Ga Traditional Council, has directed me to formally notify you of the withdrawal of his candidature for the election to the position of President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

“His Majesty has instructed that I convey to you and to the House that it was an honour to have been nominated for this role, and he remains committed to supporting the region in promoting its values, traditions, and objectives,” part of a letter issued by the registrar of the Ga Traditional Council read.

It concluded, “His Majesty further directed me to convey his gratitude to the entire membership of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs for their support and he extends his best wishes to King Odaifio Welentsi III in this election. Nii Ga wishes him well.”

King Welentsi III, before the election, was the Vice President and acting President of the Greater Accra Regional House.

He took on the acting role following the demise of the Paramount Chief of the Shai Osudoku Traditional Area, who was the President of the House.
