Accra, Sept. 17, GNA- A Guinean delegation, led by Mr. Youssif Sylla, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture on Tuesday sent a letter of invitation to President John Agyekum Kufuor, to attend the country's 50th independence anniversary, which falls on October 2, this year. Mr. Sylla presented the letter to Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama at the Osu Castle, on behalf of the President who is on official visit to the US.
He stressed that it would be impossible for Guinea to celebrate the anniversary without Ghana.
Mr. Sylla lauded the friendship between Ghana and Mali, which he said had led a legacy of liberation for formerly colonised Africa. Mr Sylla said the late Presidents Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and Sekou Toure of Guinea, played a key role in the anti- colonisation struggle. Alhaji Mahama said he was happy that the ailing President of Guinea, General Lansana Conte was well, and assured the delegation that Ghana would be fully represented at the anniversary.
He said Ghana, Guinea and Mali championed the course of Africa in the 50's, which had culminated into the African Union.
Alhaji Mahama noted that Ghana and Guinea had co-operated on a number of international platforms to promote the peace and development of Africa, emphasising that relations between the two countries in the West African Sub-Region is even stronger.
