Guinness commissions Major African Movie

Guinness has commissioned an independent film production company to produce a full-length feature film that would present a positive image of the strength of the character of Africans.

The title of the movie, which would remain confidential for now, would star Michael Power, and is to be filmed in a number of countries including Ghana. It is expected to be released in early 2003. A statement Guinness released in Accra on Wednesday and signed by Mrs Pamela Djamson-Tettey, External Affairs Director, Guinness Ghana-Accra said Guinness believed it could demonstrate the potential in making popular "block buster" type movies that were genuinely African.

The statement quoted Mr. Devlin Hainsworth, Managing Director of Guinness, Ghana, as saying, "this movie is going to be a great way of promoting what Michael Power stands for, which is about Africans releasing the potential from within themselves.

"The movie has been written by Nigerian born Tunde Babalola, who has had a successful career to date writing scripts for television and movies in the UK and the US. Michael Power expressed excitement concerning his role and added that there were not enough real African adventure movies that truly reflected African life and the "African spirit", the release said.

"Of course I have seen the script and while I cannot say anything about it yet, I can tell you that the movie is going to be great to watch, especially up on a big screen," the statement said.
