Guli-Naa elected Council of State member for Upper West

Wa, Feb 25, GNA - The Guli-Naa, Naa Seidu Bhat Braimah, 60-year-old retired educationist, was on Tuesday elected to represent the Upper West Region on the Council of State. He polled 10 votes to beat Mr Paschal Baylon Dere, a Development Expert who got seven votes.

Mr William Gangnir Wononuo, a retired Local Government Administrator got one vote while Na Sohimininye Danah Gore, Paramount Chief of Dorimon Traditional Area, and President of Upper West Region House of Chiefs, got nothing.

Two contestants including the Gwollu Kouru, Kuri-Buktie Limann, Paramount Chief of Gwollu Traditional Area withdrew from the race through a telephone call to the Upper West Regional Director of Electoral Commission, Mr. Yahaya Mahama.

Kuoru Limann who is the outgoing Upper West representative on the Council of State, was however directed to write officially to the Electoral Commission but he could not do so before voting started. He was therefore considered a contestant and got no vote even though he was not present.

In his acceptance remarks, Naa Braimah, was a former District Secretary for Wa, thanked members of the electoral college for reposing confidence in him and pledged to represent the region adequately on the council. He appealed to President John Atta Mills to visit the Upper West Region regularly in order to inspire development of the area.
