Gunman grabbed

The Ashanti Regional police are holding a self-styled businessman for unlawfully possessing a highly sophisticated weapon.

Kwabena Kwarteng alias Mataata, was apprehended in possession of a Kettle Sub 2000 riffle, whilst riding an unregistered motorbike.

The Ashanti Regional SWAT Unit of the Ghana Police Service arrested him at a location at Tafo Zongo on May 26, this year, around 10:30 pm.

The police nabbed Mataata during their usual patrol duties, ACP Ampofo Duku, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander said.

Addressing the media on Thursday, he said that Mataata had a black bag hanging on his back and that spectacle heightened police suspicion that perhaps he had an illegal item in the bag.

The police patrol team therefore conducted a search in the bag and found a Kettle Sub 2000 riffle in it.

Searching the bag further, he said, the law enforcement agents also found 21 rounds of ammunition on the suspect.

The police then arrested Mataata instantly and took him to his room at Old Tafo, where two live ammunitions were also found during a search.

A military camouflage pair of trousers and five different brands of mobile phones were also found retrieved, the police chief disclosed.

ACP Duku urged anyone that had been robbed or attacked by Mataata to proceed to the police station and report.

He said Mataata had been charged with possessing firearms without authority and he would be hauled to court soon.
