Gyewani Nkwanta needs primary school block-Assemblyman

Gyewani Nkwanta (E/R), Aug. 4, GNA – The assembly member for Gyewani Nkwanta Electoral Area, Mr Seth Marfo, has petitioned the Ghana Education Service and the Birim Central Municipal Assembly to construct a new school block for the local District Assembly (D/A) Primary School.

He made the petition through the Ghana News Agency after a rally for farmers, organised by the Akim Oda Cocoa District at Gyewani Nkwanta in the Eastern Region.

Mr Marfo, also the head teacher of the school, said the kindergarten and the primary school block constructed in 1960, was dilapidated and described it as a “death-trap”.

According to him, the primary school which held classes under trees has to close each time that the rain threatened.

The assembly member also appealed to the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to provide Gyewani Nkwanta and Borteikrom communities with public toilet failities, to help curb defecating along pavements and outskirts of communities.

Mr Marfo stated that when earlier approached, the MCE agreed to provide the facilities, but failed to do so, adding, “If defecating around continues, the sanitary conditions in the communities would worsen.”
