Hajia Hawa Ninchemah has broken a long standing record to become the first female Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku in the Upper East Region.

There had been a delay in the announcement of a Municipal Chief Executive for the Bawku area after agitations by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) faithful to some suggested names. The nomination of Hajia Hawa Ninchemah was well received and she was confirmed by members of the Bawku Municipal Assembly on Friday, July 14, 2017.

She polled 23 votes out of 28 representing 82% and was subsequently sworn in by the Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari.

In her acceptance speech, Hajia Ninchemah thanked President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work with all the assembly members for the development of the municipality. She also promised to run an all-inclusive and transparent administration devoid of any victimisation.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari, commended the assembly members for massively endorsing the President’s nominee and called on them to offer their support to Hajia Ninchemah.

He described the new MCE as a hard working servant who was capable of transforming the municipality but advised her to be accountable to the people.

Prior to her appointment Hajia Hawa Ninchemah was the Deputy Director Finance and Administration for the Ghana Education Service in Bawku.
