Hajia Safia Mohammed has officially resigned from her position as the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), effective February 24, 2025.
Her resignation letter, dated February 12, 2025, was addressed to the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) through the Chief Director of the Ministry.
Portions of the letter read, "I write to officially notify your esteemed office of my resignation as the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, effective 24th February 2025. I appreciate the opportunities I have had while serving in this role and take pride in the accomplishments and progress made by our team during my tenure."
"However, I have decided to explore new opportunities, hence my decision to resign.
"Thank you all for an incredible working relationship. I hope the Programme continues to build on the successes and structures we have established to achieve the shared objectives of the GSFP."
Hajia Safia Mohammed, who is the current Deputy National Women's Organiser of the NPP, was appointed as the National Coordinator of GSFP in 2023 by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, replacing the late Mrs. Gertrude Quashigah.
Since assuming office, Hajia Safia has worked diligently to sustain and improve the social intervention programme, which now feeds over four million Ghanaian children in deprived public basic schools across the nation.
She has streamlined GSFP’s operations and successfully introduced a new payment regime to ensure the timely disbursement of arrears to caterers. This commendable initiative has significantly reduced agitations, demonstrations, and nationwide strikes by GSFP caterers.
Hajia Safia Mohammed also took to her social media handles to express her profound gratitude to former President Nana Akufo-Addo for entrusting her with the role of National Coordinator of GSFP.
She also extended her appreciation to the management and staff of the Programme for their support and cooperation during her tenure.
