Dr. Jonathan Mensah, Medical Superintendent of the Half Assini Government Hospital, at the weekend called on the Jomoro District Assembly, the Western Nzema Traditional Council, philanthropists and organisations to assist to renovate and expand facilities at the hospital.
He made the call at a stakeholders meeting organised by the hospital at Half Assini.
Dr. Mensah said the hospital has not been renovated since it was constructed in 1974 and facilities such as the casualty, eye, nose, throat and physiotherapy units needed to be constructed.
He said the hospital cannot undertake these projects because of financial constraints, adding that, the hospital’s administration block and the dispensary annex are undergoing renovation.
Mr Paul Agyakwa, the Hospital Administrator, said the meeting was called to address concerns of the public about the hygienic conditions at the hospital, delays at the consultancy and the bad attitude of the hospital staff towards patients.
Participants of the meeting proposed the establishment of the Hospital Endowment Fund, organization of annual fund raising activities and special appeal for funds to meet the challenges facing the hospital.
Over 40 stakeholders, including assembly members, traditional authorities, businessmen, representatives of Civil Society Organizations, Pharmacists and staff of the hospital, attended the meeting.
