Haruna escapes death

The former Deputy Managing Director of Metro TV and the NPP parliamentary candidate in the 2012 parliamentary polls for the Bawku Central in the Upper East Region, Haruna Alhassan, escaped death by a whisker after his Ford Explorer was smashed at the back by an articulated truck.

Travelling in the vehicle with him was his spouse who also escaped unscathed.

According to him, he was returning from Bolga to Accra after attending the preliminary hearing in the suit he brought before a high court in the regional capital, against the authenticity of the declaration of the NDC candidate, Mahama Ayariga, as the winner of the 2012 parliamentary polls.

The accident occurred on Thursday, 18th April at about 8pm in Abofour in the Ashanti Region, when an articulated truck, driving at top speed, rammed into his four-wheel drive Ford Explorer vehicle with registration number GS 615-10. According to him, it happened when a convoy of vehicles awaited the crossing of a herd of cattle across the highway in the town.

The vehicle, which has been towed to the Abofour Police Station, is said to be badly damaged.

He told DAILY GUIDE, “Had anybody been seated on the rear seat, the story could have been a different one.”

The accident reminded many of a similar fate which befell the NPP’s running mate to the presidential candidate in the 2012 polls, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which occurred in the Northern Region.
