Hopeson Adorye, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has rebuked the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso constituency, Prof Kingsley Nyarko, over his actions at the just-ended Ejisu by-election.
He stated that the envelope that the Kwadaso MP was captured on camera dropping on the table of the EC officials contained money intended to influence the individuals to favour the NPP candidate in the by-elections.
He condemned the action and called on the appropriate institutions to probe the matter, indicating that what he did was tantamount to a crime that should not be tolerated.
"We all saw the Kwadaso MP dropping money on the table. In the whole four years, has any MP ever passed by the EC's office to give them lunch? Kingsley Nyarko should be arrested and put before court.
"Don't you know it's a crime to give money under such circumstances? I believe the envelope contained cash," he said in Twi while speaking in an interview with Oyerepa TV and monitored by GhanaWeb.
Hopeson also commended independent candidate, Kwabena Aduomi, for giving the ruling party a run for its money despite the defeat.
"In a nutshell, the process has been fine. I will commend my candidate [Kwabena Aduomi] for garnering that number of votes because an individual fighting the state is not easy," he added.
His remarks follows a video that surfaced online showing the Kwadaso MP, Prof Kingsley Nyarko, dropping an envelope on a table where Electoral Commission (EC) officials were stationed during the Ejisu elections.
The EC's investigation later revealed that the MP said he told the officials to use the money for their lunch.
However, a section of the public has rejected the claims, calling for the MP to be dealt with to prevent similar occurrences in the near future.
Meanwhile, the NPP's candidate, Kwabena Boateng, defeated his closest contender, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, to win the Ejisu by-elections.
