“She has allowed herself to be pushed into an openly partisan position and the peddling of such a wicked lie. Her credibility was questioned when she publicly announced that the CID knew where the girls are. Since she mentioned herself, has she invited herself for questioning”? These were the exact words of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during a press briefing held today May 9 in response to the Criminal Investigative Department’s invite tendered to Ofosu Ampofo.

The party’s National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo had been invited by CID of the Ghana Police Service over the recent spate of fires and kidnappings in Ghana.

In a letter addressed to him, they established that some of the persons picked up for interrogation and investigation into cases of kidnapping and fire outbreaks have mentioned Mr. Ofosu Ampofo’s name as part of a grand scheme to cause fear and panic in the country.

The party on the other hand has disparaged such claims and accused the Commissioner of Police for peddling what they described as a “wicked lie” against Ofosu Ampofo.

The NDC at the presser descended heavily on the Director- General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, asking her to also invite herself for questioning as there are no signs or traces of the kidnapped Takoradi girls a month after her ‘oblivious’ declaration that she knew where they were.

Vice Chairman of the NDC’s Council of Elders, Alhaji Iddrisu Mahama who spoke on behalf of the party however noted that the Police and government are aimed at destabilising the hard-earned reputation of Ghana’s democracy by either arresting, forcing into exile or assassinating people who tend to expose their wicked plans or regard as threat, a situation they likened to cases of Ofosu Ampofo, Manaseh Azure Awuni and Ahmed Suale respectively.

“The irresponsible acts of government and the police have the potential to undermine our democracy and drag down our hard-won reputation. We note with deep concern that for the first time since the advent of the fourth republic about 26years ago, critical voices of decent have either been assassinated, forced to go on exile to protect their lives” he stated.

He further accused COP Addo-Danquah of pushing the agenda of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
