Police in the Bawku Municipality of the Upper East Region have arrested one Awal Adams, who deals in Batik Tie and Dye, for allegedly slapping the founder and former flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, at his residence in his hometown Bawku.

The 2016 flagbearer of the All People’s National Convention visited his hometown to join other Muslims to celebrate Eid-ul Adha.

It’s commonplace for natives of Bawku, especially Muslims, to return home to join their families to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha yearly.

The suspect, Awal Adams, travelled to the residence of Hassan Ayariga to ask him why he left the People’s National Convention (PNC) to form his All People’s Congress.

Mr. Ayariga expressed surprise about the attack in his house just like other eyewitnesses.

According to Mr. Ayariga, he was at home at about 11:45am on Monday when Awal Adams came there and started asking questions.

“I decided to ignore him and turn away, but Awal Adams held me behind and slapped me.

He said he fell because of the hefty slap and while on the floor, Awal Adams attempted to pin him down but neighbours came to his rescue.

The neighbours decided to also beat up Awal Adams, but the APC founder prevented them and reported to the case to the Police in Bawku.
