Hasten the implementation of decision on Ga lands- Kufuor

Accra, Dec. 25, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor has directed the Lands Commission and the Attorney General and Justice Ministry to act in concert to hasten the implementation of the Government's decision to return some Ga lands to their owners.

He said they should move quickly to ensure that the right thing was done to help prevent any future litigation over those lands. President Kufuor gave the directive when the Ga Traditional Council led by the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Tawiah, paid a courtesy call on him at the Golden Jubilee House in Accra.

It was the first official event to be hosted at the new seat of Government after its inauguration.

The Chiefs were there to show appreciation for the good performance of the Government within the last eight year.

President Kufuor said his Administration had kept faith with the Ga State, pointing out that any objective person would admit that the Government had done well to change the face of Accra.

He called for closer co-operation between the Ga Traditional Council, individual family land owners and the Government based on a shared vision to develop Accra, the capital city, into modern city. Additionally, he counselled the Gas not to do anything that would make people from other parts of the country to feel like strangers.

The Ga Mantse hailed President Kufuor for his outstanding leadership that has won for the nation goodwill and international admiration.

Nii Tachie Tawiah said the Traditional Council was satisfied with the "wonderful performance" of the Government, adding that, Ghana owed President Kufuor "a lot of thanks."

The Chiefs presented to him a bronze work, symbolizing the good relationship that has existed between them. 24 Dec. 2008
