A group calling itself the Association for Northern Development has described as highly unfair a statement made by the out-going Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Madam Hawa Yakubu, on an Accra-based radio station recently that the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, had a hand in her loss of the Bawku Central seat.
The group described the assertion of Madam Hawa Yakubu as not only outrageous and totally misplaced, but also noted her utterance was just a clear example of the effusions of an ungrateful person.
In a statement signed and issued to the press in Tamale in the Northern Region, Alhaji Abukari Sayibu, spokesperson for the group explained that it took the personal intervention of the Vice President to persuade NPP adherents not to contest as independent candidates against Madam Hawa, and wondered why the Vice President could be working against her when the Vice President needed to support the New Patriotic Party in the northern Ghana to improve upon its performance in the election.
The Association also dismissed Madam Hawa?s assertion that the Vice President worked against other NPP parliamentary candidates in the Tamale electoral area and explained that she could probably have made the statement out of either hysteria or hallucination, especially as the group had investigated the degree of support the Vice President gave to parliamentary aspirants in all the 26 constituencies in the Northern Region.
At the instance of the Vice President, a fundraising dinner was held in Tamale in November to support the Party in the North.
It said all parliamentary aspirants of the NPP in the Northern Region were supported with ?10 million each, 150 Party ?T? shirts, Party posters, wall clocks and fuel by the Vice President, among other supporters.
The group has, therefore, called on the Parliamentary Candidates who lost as well as those who won, to as a matter of decency and honesty, come out to boldly and without reservation, disassociate themselves from Hawa?s dreamed-up allegations.
