The counsel for Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the lead suspect in the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, has accused the Ghana Police Service of witch-hunting his client.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Kofi Essel described the arrest and subsequent remand of his client in connection with the death of Ahmed Hussein-Suale as an attempt by the Ghana Police Service to advance someone's career within the force.
He further emphasised that his client is being used as a scapegoat in the case, stressing his strong resolve to fight such attempts, seek justice for his client, and ensure that the law prevails.
“It is just for someone’s career to shoot up and someone has to go down and that is what they are doing. It is just a mere witch-hunting and we will deal with it in the law court. It is not even at the committal stage but they have taken him to court,” Kofi Essel assured.
The legal practitioner, providing an update on Koranteng’s current state of mind and health, said he was staying hopeful.
He, however, maintained that his client would not be broken or harmed by the charges leveled against him by the police.
“The police said they will amend their charge sheet and I maintain it is shambolic because it doesn’t hold any water so we will see what he will come back with. He is a strong person and they can’t break him. He will survive. We just pray that nobody goes beyond what the law allows while he is in custody.”
The 35-year-old businessman was remanded by the Madina District Court following his appearance on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. He has been provisionally charged with murder.
Koranteng and his team are expected to reappear in court on April 1, 2025.
