Head porters Association in Kumasi of the Ashanti Region has expressed its readiness to support the up coming demonstration slated for Wednesday by the Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) and Movement for Change.

According to the Association, its readily behind the move by the NPP to cause the Electoral Commission (EC) to respond to electoral concerns affecting Ghanaians.

The NPP in a press release indicated that the demonstration dubbed ‘Baamu Yadda’ is a call on the EC to compile credible register for free and fair 2016 elections.

The President of the Association, Hajia Adiza Zongo Pioneer revealed this on Nhyira FM.

She debunked claims that head porters are in bed with politicians.

‘Though we the head porters do not engage in politics, I believe its in the right direction to voice out our worries when we are faced with challenges, we were not paid taxes during former President J.A Kuffour’s administration, but now ‘Kayayes’ pay taxes, even the place they sleep, officials of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) collect taxes from them, which is wrong,’ she indicated.

Hajia Adiza encouraged Ghanaians to support the demonstration.

‘I urge all Ghanaians to come out in their numbers to protest against the EC, am really surprised about the EC Boss Charlotte Osei’s posture towards electoral problems in the country. There is likely to be chaos if people realise that their names are missing in the voters’ register. When there is war, we will all be affected, we are asking her to open the voters’ register for people to cross check their names’, she said.
