Koforidua, Jan. 27, GNA- The Chairman of the Eastern Regional Branch of the Association of Health Service Administrators, Mr Kweku Dua Oyinka has called for early approval of standardized hospital fees structure to enable health facilities to meet their service costs. He explained that, the cost of hospital supplies keep increasing while health facilities keep charging fees that were meant for services rendered in the 1990s.
Mr Oyinka was speaking at the fourth Annual Get-Together of the Association at Koforidua on Friday.
He said the year 2006 saw heavy reduction of central government financial support for health facilities and explained that indications were that the situation would not change this year and the year beyond and therefore called on his colleagues to embark upon prudent management of material and human resources to unsure smooth running of their facilities.
Mr Oyinka urged health administrators to institute strict internal control mechanisms to plug all revenue loop holes to ensure that the facilities benefit from any fee reviews. He urged his colleagues to look at areas where they could help their facilities to reduce cost and also privities some of the services of their facilities to raise funds to maintain the facility and also support the running of their facilities.
Mr Oyinka called on all health workers to support the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS) to succeed and urged the health administrators to encourage patients with problems to lodge complaints at the health facilities or the NHIS offices for immediate solution.
