Tema,(Greater Accra Region) 24, Sept. Mr Samuel Nuamah-Donkor, Deputy Minister of Health, has asked health workers to be disciplined and treat patients with respect. Mr Nuamah-Donkor who was opening a four-day seminar for 40 regional and divisional officers of the Health Services Workers' Union (HSWU)at Tema yesterday said while workers are quick to fight for their right "we should equally be enthusiastic to fight for the right of patients". He said he was happy that the HSWU leadership had taken up the challenge to educate their members to change their attitude towards work. He said the money spent by the government to rehabilitate buildings and structures and to re-equip health facilities cannot be justified if workers do not change the way they perform their duties to promote the health service. "At the end of the day we will be judged not by how many new equipment we have but by our dealing with patients who use our services and how efficient we are in the use of the resources.'' The seminar organised by HSWU will treat topics like "the funding system of the services and prospects for employees", ''the labour laws '' and "ILO and grievances handling".
